Notre Dame Monastery Church

The Notre Dame Monastery Church is also known among the people of Trenčín as the “Church by the Sisters.” School Sisters of Notre Dame came to Trenčín in 1921 and began working in both a kindergarten and an elementary school located near the church.

The church was built in 1909 in a historicizing Neo-Romanesque style. The magnificent wall paintings with biblical motifs were created in 1924 by the well-known Slovak painter Peter J. Kern, who also painted 14 Stations of the Cross inside the church. In the side chapel is a painting of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary from 1909, created by F. Schumacher. The Neo-Style interior includes the main altar, pulpit, confessional, and organ.

Open: The church can be visited before or after services, which are held Monday–Friday at 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM (during July and August there is no 5:00 PM mass), on Saturday at 7:00 AM, and on Sunday at 7:00 AM, 8:30 AM, and 6:30 PM.
