Beckov Castle

Beckov Castle is a majestic monument poised on top of a 60-metre steep rock massif above the village of Beckov. The castle, situated close to the Váh River, guarded the trade route through the Váh River watershed area. Once home to kings, mighty noblemen and knights, the Castle withstood the raids of Tartars and Turks.

Thanks to its excellent ability to defend itself, the town just below the castle flourished and by the 17th century had become a commercial, cultural, and church centre. Numerous Hungarian noble families and noblemen inhabited the castle in the past before it was destroyed in the 18th century by a fire. During recent years there was a significant recovery of the castle and now many interesting events are held there.

6.5 m long wooden dragon Blundus became the new inhabitant of Beckov Castle in February 2020. According to legend, once it lived directly in the castle well, which was 27 meters deep. He snored so loudly, that the whole castle and village Beckov were shaking to its foundations. Therefore, five young men took muskets, waited for him to come out of the well, and shot him.

Ambrovec Mansion is located just below the castle and houses an exhibition of historical furniture taken from the interiors of noblemen’s abodes, wooden sculptures, drawings of Ladislav Medňanský, and artistic craftsmanship. The backyard area exhibits antique carriages and agricultural machines.Nowadays, the mansion is closed due to reconstruction.
