Outdoor Climbing Areas around Trenčín
Skalka
Skalka is the most popular training area for climbers from Trenčín. It is located near the town, close to the Váh River. There are around 80 routes of all difficulty levels, including bouldering options. The routes are polished, secured with bolts and pitons placed at comfortable distances.
Beckov
Beckov has long been one of the most popular climbing areas, so the wall is quite polished. It offers suitable conditions for beginners as well as advanced climbers. Thanks to a large overhang, this 60-metre limestone wall can be climbed even in rainy weather (provided there is sufficient wind). In pleasant summer weather, you can also enjoy swimming at the nearby Zelená voda lake.
From road no. 33, the access points are located above a neighbouring garden (a fixed chain traverse is installed in the rock), which we recommend using. Camping directly below the wall is prohibited, and please remember to sign the visitor’s book upon arrival.
Kamenné vráta
This climbing area is located in the south-western part of the Strážov Mountains, near the spa town of Trenčianske Teplice. It consists of two limestone crags about half a kilometre apart, forming the “gateway” to the Kamenica valley, which gave the site its name.
The southern crag (on the right when viewed from the valley) reaches up to 35 metres in height and currently offers around 60 routes ranging from 6 to 30 metres in length. The routes are mostly very well bolted in exceptionally solid limestone, featuring beautiful natural lines. Climbing is possible here almost all year round, and there is a great bivouac spot nearby.
Access:
The area can be reached from Trenčianske Teplice or from Omšenie. At the end of Trenčianske Teplice near Baračka, do not turn onto the red hiking trail but continue towards Omšenie. At the first left turn towards the American airmen memorial, after approximately a 30-minute walk past cottages, you will reach the memorial. About 50 metres further is a spring, behind which a narrow path begins. After roughly 15 minutes of a steep forest ascent, you will reach the crags.
