Topoľčiansky castle

In the magical forests of Považský Inovec, at the top of one hill, wonderful castle with tiled roof attracts you from a distance. It was built in 13th century and, together with the Uhrovec and Oponice castles, it was one of the guard castles. The last owners of the Topoľčiansky castle were Stummer family, one of the richest families in Upper Hungary. They were skilled bankers, entrepreneurs and thanks to sugar beet growing they became the biggest sugar producer in Hungary. In the middle of 18th century the family repaired the castle, but after they moved to manor house in Tovarníky, the castle began to decay. The main tower in the romantic style was built at the end of 19th century. The castle provides a beautiful view of region Horná Nitra, the hill Zobor and mountains Strážovské vrchy. Near the castle you can find the cave Opálená skala.
